Well Fathers day is just about on us again. The Junkmail in the letterbox has increased as all the cleaver marketing companies want to tell you just what it is that your dad needs for Fathers day. But what if the pennies are a bit tight, or you dont want to go into all the hoopla that the shops say you must do? Well here are a few ideas to treat dad, with things from the heart! Home-made fudge, great for the dad with the sweet tooth, and there are so many different recipes, some very easy ones, and those not for the faint hearted! Here is a super simple recipe for Chocolate fudge :- 1 tin Condensed milk, 1 x 375g packet chocolate buttons All you do is melt the chocolate buttons into the condensed milk, either in the microwave, or on the stove in a double boiler. You can add your favourite nuts or dried fruit, and 10 ml of your favourite (or dads) flavouring/alcohol (Baileys, rum etc) Then pour into a 15cm square baking tin that has been lined with baking paper, spread it out, and tap tin to remove bubbles, then leave to set for 2 hours. Remove from tin and cut into pieces Home-made chocolates, just as yummy as fudge and easy to make, molds are easy to come by now too, you can even make filled chocolates. Sweet assortment, maybe a group of friends get together and each bring the ingredients to make 1 type of sweet (fudge, chocolate toffee etc) then you all share and have an assortment. Vouchers, these are easy to make or print, there are heaps of websites with free printable vouchers on, or you can make your own, trace around the childrens hands and fill in information. Example 1 free car wash, 1 hour to read the news paper in peace, 1 breakfast in bed, 1 coffee. Just think of anything that the kids can do for dad. Breakfast in bed, spoil dad this fathers day, this can be as simple or elaborate as you want it to be, or if the kids want to do it them selves easy. Toast is an easy one, a bit more elaborate is TOBLERONE Croissants Serves: 4 Ingredients: 4 croissants, 100g bar milk Toblerone, roughly chopped Cut croissants horizontally with a sharp knife. Sprinkle with Toblerone. Close lid. Wrap croissant in foil. Bake at 150°C, 300°F, Gas Mark 2 for 10 minutes or until warmed through. YUM! Bacon and waffles are also a hit in our house! Me and Dad photo album, this can be made easily, you can either print your own photo’s with comments on paper and staple together, or you can pick up a cheap photo album and put pics in, comments can be added too. A special poem, I found this website, with free printable poems, you can print one out with a photo of you on the page, or decorate the page, or even frame one. If you want to be very creative you and the kids can make their own frame (bring out the macaroni!) Fathers day card, yes the shops are full of them, but why not make your own, there are so many ideas, you could cut out pics from all those mailers that are piling up at home, or draw a picture. You can make stamps out of potatoes, or paint hands and feet and use them. If this is dads first fathers day, why not paint baby’s foot, and stamp that on to the card, a treasure to keep! Bake dad a cake! find out dads favourite type of cake and make it for him, banana, chocolate, fruit cake, all are pretty easy, clean up is fun, and you can all enjoy the outcome!
